CMB’s Kemp tabbed with another football honor

Collins-Maxwell/Baxter senior Bryce Kemp has gotten plenty of recognition for his fantastic four-year football career.

He was named first-team all-district by the coaches and first-team all-state by several media publications. And he will be a part of the 2015 Iowa Shrine Bowl Classic this summer.

But perhaps the most prestigious honor to come his way came when he was named Class 2A Player of the Year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association’s Yearbook committee.

“Most of the honors that he has gotten, someone has to nominate him,” CMB coach Rob Luther said. “This one, I didn’t have anything to do with it. That’s what makes it special. It came from coaches who know how special of a player he is.’

Luther said the IFCA’s Yearbook committee chooses the player of the year based off season statistics, all-state teams and anything else football related. Kemp is the first athlete at CMB to earn this honor, according to Luther.

“It’s nice when other coaches think of you this way,” Luther said. “It’s pretty neat. I know his Dad was pretty proud of him and so am I.”

Kemp scored a touchdown in just about every possible way this past season in helping the Raiders to their first-ever 9-0 regular season.

The Eastern Michigan-bound Kemp had 950 receiving yards with eight touchdowns, 222 rushing yards with three touchdowns, three interceptions with two scores and a kick return touchdown.

He also led the Raiders in tackles with 69 and had four sacks.
