Paul Peterson

Paul Peterson, son of Carl E. and Emma M. Couper Peterson, was born May 2, 1932, in Grinnell, and died Feb. 14, 2015, in the Apache Junction, Arizona Health Center at the age of 82. Paul was united in marriage to Betty Terpstra May 6, 1956.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; two brothers, Bud and Harry; four sisters, Mable, Virginia, Wilma Mae and Alberta. Paul is survived by a step-daughter, Charlotte Thompson of Des Moines; granddaughter Kimberly Davis; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jakab Davis of Michigan; two brothers Bill and (Carol) Peterson of Mansfield, Mo., and Robert Peterson of Clinton; sister Marilyn and (Earnest) Ramey of Norwood, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was raised in Mansfield, Mo., and attended Mansfield schools. He then worked at ranching in Kansas and Colorado before entering the Army, serving during the Korean War. After returning home from the war, Paul went to work at the Maytag Company in Newton for 30 years. He served on the Maytag Labor Management Council where he served as a line steward and department steward for Local Union 997 and was a working foreman in porcelain. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 in Newton, and the Newton Masonic Lodge #59. He enjoyed fishing, history and rock collecting, and telling a good joke. He will be missed by many.
