Newton Police Department

• Aaron A. Halsted, 30, of Newton, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled him over in the 800 block of North 19th Avenue East at 6:16 p.m. Monday. He was cited and released to appear.

• Joshua L. Peterson, 39, of Des Moines, is charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled him over in the 500 block of North 19th Avenue East at 1:57 p.m. Monday. He was cited and released to appear.

• Marlene S. Helton, 52, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled her over in the 1000 block of West Sixth Street South at 10:50 p.m. Sunday. Officers smelled an odor of alcohol and she had a BAC of .127 and admitted that she had been drinking. She was cited and released to appear.

• Jacob J. Britton, 25, of Newton, is charged with interference with official acts after authorities were called to 821 S. 13th Ave. E. #F5 at 10:25 p.m. Monday. Officers were called on an intoxicated man who was being assaultive and found Britton who was visibly upset. He began yelling at his mother and the officers but the officer was able to calm him down and they left the residence. Officers were called back after Britton began fighting with his family again and officers found him holding his girlfriend down on the couch. Officers instructed him to let her go and he did. After throwing his phone at his sister, officers restrained him and arrested him. He fought them to the car and was placed in the patrol car. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
