Lietz leads Tigerhawks at Dickinson Relays

CEDAR FALLS — The Colfax-Mingo boys’ track and field team opened up its indoor season with a trip to the campus of Northern Iowa on Tuesday night.

The Tigerhawks participated in the annual A.D. Dickinson Relays and came home with a few strong performances.

Leading the way was junior Jacob Lietz, who finished 15th in the 400-meter dash. He hit the line in 54.44 seconds.

That was a couple seconds faster than teammate Blake Summy, who crossed in 41st with a time of 56.22. There were more than 137 runners entered in the race.

Summy and Lietz also competed in the 200-meter dash. This time, Summy had the better time as he crossed the line in 67th with a time of 25.57.

Lietz was 82nd in 25.85 seconds. More than 150 runners registered for the 200.

Summy’s best performance on the night came in the long jump. The Tigerhawk junior leaped 18 feet, 8.5 inches and placed 36th.

Colin Lourens and Jared Myers also competed in the event and placed 58th and 74th, respectively. Lourens’ best jump was 17-10, while Myers was marked at 16-9.

Lourens’ best finish came in the 60-meter hurdles where he placed 57th overall with a time of 10.06.

Myers hit the line in 72nd with a time of 10.40 and Richard Blom was 83rd in 11.31.

Alan Wheeler participated in the shot put and finished 76th with a top mark of 38-1.

The Tigerhawks’ 4x400-meter relay team came in 37th overall with a time of 4 minutes, 2.06 seconds.

Colfax-Mingo’s boys and girls compete Friday at Central College in Pella. Action starts at 4:30 p.m.
