PELLA — Lizzie Stock and Chandler Sturtz, both 2014 Newton High graduates, are members of the Central College softball and baseball teams, respectively, this spring.
Stock is a freshman shortstop for the Central softball team. Stock played shortstop and pitched for Newton High’s Cardinals last year.
The Dutch softball team went 2-2 over the weekend in the Rochester Dome Indoor Tournament in Rochester, Minn.
The 12th ranked Dutch softball team leaves Wednesday for the Tucson Invitational Games in Tucson, Ariz. The Dutch women play 16 games in nine days, beginning Friday.
Central’s softball team has its first home game March 27. Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) is in Pella for a doubleheader.
Sturtz is a freshman infielder for the Central baseball team. He is expected to see action at shortstop and second base, which is where he played for Newton High.
The Dutch baseball team opened the 2015 season Monday against host Greenville, Ill. Central’s baseball team heads to Tucson also, for an eight-game stint in seven days at the Tucson Invitational Games, March 15-21.
Central’s baseball home opener is a four-game weekend, April 3-4, against Dubuque.
