Duane L. Clark

Duane L. Clark, 82, of Prairie City, died March 8, 2015, at Bright Kavanagh Hospice in Des Moines.

He was born in Prairie City, May 7, 1932, the son of Kenneth and Blanche (Peery) Clark. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1950, and went to work for Iowa Meat Packing Company in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Millburn May 27, 1953, shortly after he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Korean War and returned home to Prairie City. Besides Iowa Meat Packing Company, Duane worked for True-Value Hardware and Kent Feeds. He retired from Kent Feeds in 1991. After retirement, he continued his part-time job at Coburn Funeral Home.

Duane was active in his community and his church as a member of the Lions Club and American Legion; as a Cub Scout Master; and as a member of the Parish Council and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, especially his trips each summer to Minnesota or Canada. He also spent time outdoors working in the yard and taking care of his cars. Family gatherings were very special to him and he was lucky to have his grandchildren and great-grandchildren close by as they grew up.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maggie; his daughter Mary Jo (Les) Hostetter and her family, Bill (Rachel) Hostetter and sons Brandon and Garrett; Steve (Malinda) Hostetter and their children, Sydni, Sierra and Shane; David Hostetter and his children Kennedi, Dakota, Ilia and Elias; his son Mike (Kim) Clark and his family, Emily (Mike) Newman and their children Haley, Ashley and Brandon; Luke (Jennifer) Clark and their daughter, Elizabeth; Kenni Clark and her children Jordan and McKenna; and Kaylee Clark and her fiancé, Nathan Forst; and son Frank (Kristy) Clark and his family, Christopher (Angela) Clark and sons Noah and Carson; Nick (Tammy) Clark and their children Lane, Leif and Suzi; Jessica (Matt) Bliss and their son Bodey; sister Lavonne Pendroy; and brother-in-law Francis (LuAnn) Millburn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dale and Lowell Clark; his sister, Lois Guthrie; niece Sandra Collins; and nephew Jay Millburn.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 at Immaculate Conception Church in Colfax, followed by a wake service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11 at Immaculate Conception Church with interment at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Duane's name to the American Heart Association, March of Dimes or Hospice of Central Iowa.
