Newton Police Department
• Zachary A. Cupples, 20, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence after authorities pulled him over in the 100 block of East Fifth Street North at 1:42 a.m. Jan. 25. When officers spoke with Cupples they smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana. His eyes were bloodshot and he had slow speech. He eventually gave a sample that tested positive for marijuana. He was cited and released to appear.
• Joshua J. White, 30, of Newton, is charged with driving while barred after authorities pulled him over in the 1900 block of North Fourth Avenue East at 2:29 p.m. Thursday. White was pulled over for not wearing a seat belt and told officers that his driver’s license was barred. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
