Harold D. Mason, 85, of Newton, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. No services will take place at this time. Memorials in Harold’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton, or may be sent to the family.
Harold, the son of Chester and Juanita (Bair) Mason, was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1948. Following high school, Harold enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. After his discharge, he worked for many years as a carpenter. He also sold insurance and sold and taught Dale Carnegie courses. Harold was united in marriage with Mary (Albright) Moomaw Dec. 3, 1969, in Princeton, Mo. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking, and had made several beautiful pieces of furniture.
Those left to honor Harold’s memory include his wife, Mary of Newton; sons, Douglas Mason and David Mason; his step-children: Bryan (Karen) Moomaw, Debra (Michael) Williams and Michael (Billie) Moomaw; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen (Verle) Kooistra. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Chet Mason.
