Women’s prison inmates donate hair for cancer wigs

MITCHELLVILLE — At least 17 women in prison at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville are donating some of their hair to be used to make wigs for women diagnosed with cancer.

The Iowa Department of Corrections says the women will have at least eight inches of their hair cut by a Madrid hair stylist on Sunday.

The hair will be donated to Beautiful Lengths, a program sponsored by the American Cancer Society and Pantene, a maker of hair care products.

Beautiful Lengths has provided more than 24,000 wigs to American Cancer Society wig banks.
