Men accused of fish tournament cheating

CLEAR LAKE — Two northern Iowa men are in trouble for telling a fish story that state officials say may not be true. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says Aaron Lauber, of Clear Lake and Jason Schuttler, of Manly, are charged with theft by deception after officials believe they cheated at a state-sponsored fish tournament at Clear Lake on Feb. 8. Lauber, who is 23, and Schuttler, who is 25, turned in the winning entry of 50 fish at the Yellow Bass Bonanza.

They won a prize package valued at $1,500.

The DNR received a tip that some of the fish were caught outside of the tournament’s hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The cases are not yet listed in online court records. It wasn’t immediately clear if they had attorneys.
