Day 2 2015 State: A Tale of Two Wrestlers; PCM's Clark wrestles for title, Newton's Lee out

DES MOINES — The second day of the 2015 Iowa High State Wrestling Championships was one of ups and downs for the two area wrestlers remaining in action.

Newton High’s Duncan Lee lost in a Class 3A 195-pound quarterfinal match, getting pinned by second-ranked Colin Kreiter of North Scott in 38 seconds. Lee came up short in a 7-6 decision against Isaiah Cox of Ottumwa in the second round of consolation.

The two losses eliminate Lee from his first-ever state wrestling tournament. The second-year wrestler finished with a 1-2 mark in the state tournament and a season record of 35-12.

In Class 2A, Prairie City-Monroe senior Tristan Clark will be wrestling for the 126-pound state championship in Saturday evening’s finals at Wells Fargo Arena.

Clark, who was ranked fifth coming into the state meet, wrestles top-ranked Ryan Leisure of Clear Lake in the championship match. Clark is 44-3 and Leisure is 46-1.

Clark pulled out a 6-3 decision over Devin Stortz of Decorah in the quarterfinals Friday. Friday night, Clark upended No. 2-ranked Brice Everson of Camanche with a 9-6 win in the semifinals.

Saturday's state tournament finals will be on KCWI out of Des Moines on Mediacom Cable Channel 9, DIsh TV and Direct TV Channel 23. Check your local listings to confirm channel locations and times. All broadcasts can be seen at ihssn.com at no charge.
