Gladsons win big prize in recent Powerball drawing

A Newton man said he found out he won a big Powerball prize after having his tickets checked during a recent trip to the gas station.

Jeff Gladson said his wife, Donna, went in to check his Powerball tickets while he fueled up the vehicle, and she quickly came running out of the store.

“She came out yelling and screaming at me,” he said. “I thought I pumped the wrong gas in the vehicle or something.”

One of Gladson’s tickets matched four white balls and the Powerball in the Feb. 11 drawing to win a $10,000 prize, and since he added the Power Play option to his purchase his winnings tripled to $30,000.

“I had to go in there and confirm it,” Gladson told lottery employees Friday as he claimed his winning ticket at the lottery’s headquarters in Clive. “I didn’t get much sleep (that) night either.”

The winning numbers in that night’s $564.1 million jackpot drawing were: 11-13-25-39-54 and Powerball 19. The Power Play number was 3. The massive jackpot was split by three tickets purchased in North Carolina, Texas and Puerto Rico. Wednesday’s jackpot is an estimated $50 million.

Gladson said he’s a regular Powerball player and purchased his winning ticket at Casey’s, 1018 First Ave. E. in Newton. He said his lottery winnings will used to buy a new pickup truck.

Gladson was one of two Iowa Lottery players to win a $30,000 prize in the Feb. 11 drawing. Becky Lomen, of Waukon, also won a $30,000 Powerball prize on a ticket she purchased at Huba Huba, 9 Ninth St. SW in Waukon.
