Rob Lumbard returns to Blues Under the Blue Roof

Blues Under the Blue Roof

This event is hosted at the library and provided by Friends of the Library, South Skunk Blues Society and the Arts Connection and is free and open to the public. Monday brings back Rob Lumbard to the Newton Public Library. He last played under the Blue Roof in February of 2013. Lumbard received his musical education in the bars on Forest Avenue in Des Moines. His music has appeared in several Public Television projects, which have received an Emmy, among other awards. Lumbard is an honorary member of the Central Iowa Blues Society and has participated in their Blues in the Schools program. His songwriting has been heavily influenced by the Texas songwriters and is laced with self-deprecating humor. Rob is working on his next CD, “Blues in a Bottle,” that will be coming out in early 2015.

Upcoming Classes at the Library

On Friday, the library will offer two classes: Facebook Security Tips at 2 p.m. and Gmail Email at 10 a.m. Participants must register by calling 641-792-4108. Facebook Security Tips description: Learn how to make your Facebook secure as possible. Set viewing settings on photos, statuses and more. Facebook land can be tricky, but don’t be afraid, we will help you. Gmail Email description: Learn how to set-up a Gmail account. You will also learn all email settings, how to add contacts, send email and email etiquette. For Google Email users only.

Coffee & Movie

Enjoy a movie and a cup of coffee for free at the library. Showing “When The Game Stands Tall.” Synopsis: The journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport.

Food For Fines

The library will be accepting non-perishable food items in exchange for overdue fines assessed against library materials March 2-7. Each non-perishable food item donated to the library will be given to the Jasper Community Food Pantry. One non-perishable food item will equal up to $1 in fines. Some acceptable non-perishable food items include: rice, dried cereal, beans, soups, canned meats, canned juices, peanut butter, and any canned fruits or vegetables. Expired foods will not be accepted. This program does not affect charges assessed for lost/damaged materials or recovery fees. You don’t have to have a fine to donate. Patrons who clear their fines will be allowed to update to the new library card for free (normally $1).

Email Due Date Reminders

Receive alerts about items coming due in three days. In the library catalog (www.newton.lib.ia.us, click on Catalog), go to: My Account and choose Email Change Request. Type in your email next to New Email Address: and your library card number (no spaces) next to My ID is: Click on Send.
