Fundraiser to benefit Purvis family

The Knights of Columbus of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will host a Bingo fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds of the event go to the Purvis family of Newton. Joe Purvis recently died after battling cancer and left behind a wife, Stacey and two young children.

The event is open to the public, but the church is encouraging members to support the dedicated parish family.

Additionally, a GoFund Me page has been established for donations at http://www.gofundme.com/purvisfamilyfund.

“Joe Purvis was a dedicated member of the church,” said Cody Muhs, grand knight of the Sacred Heart chapter. “He desired to become a Knight of Columbus but wasn’t able to participate due to his health.”

Muhs said the Knights founding principles are charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism and the Knights provide charity in many ways to members of the parish and community.

“Joe has such a young family, we wanted to see how we can help,” Muhs said. “Several Knights are friends and neighbors of Joe and Stacey, so we want to raise as much money as possible to help out in whatever way we can.”
