Newton Congregational United Church of Christ will host an Ash Wednesday worship from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 308 W. Second St. N. in Newton.
An Ash Wednesday service of worship begins the Lenten season of reflection and repentance. The service will include song, prayer, scripture and the imposition of ashes.
The church will also host Play with Fire, a dinner and dessert making event for high school age and recently graduated youth from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Baking will kick off the Lenten season in preparation for the great celebration of Easter.
This event is free and open to the public.
