PCM gets statement win over No. 9 Gilbert

MONROE — Not even a bloodied jersey could slow down Prairie City-Monroe’s Logan Gilman on Tuesday night.

The Mustang junior put his complete offensive arsenal on full display in front of a packed house at PCM High School and his game-high 27 points guided the home team to a 70-60 victory over Class 3A No. 9 Gilbert.

The win completes the season sweep of the Tigers, who came into the game with just two losses.

PCM also moves into a first-place tie with Gilbert in the Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference standings and can claim a share of the league crown with a home win over Greene County on Friday.

“We need him to play like that every night,” PCM coach Fred Lorensen said of Gilman. “He had a nice game tonight, inside and outside. The other guys pitched in and did their part, too. It was a really good team win for us.”

Trey Lindsay also finished with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals on his Senior Night as the Mustangs rallied from a third-quarter deficit.

Senior Chase Keuning also had nine points for PCM, while senior Ricky Reeve and sophomore Lucas Greiner each scored eight.

Gilman kept the Mustangs within striking distance with a 16-point first half. He scored PCM’s first seven points, buried two of his three 3-pointers in the first two quarters and brought the Mustangs to within two at halftime after burying a pull-up jumper.

“I knew we had to win this game if we wanted to be conference champions,” Gilman said. “I feel like the shots should fall every night, but luckily the shots were going down tonight. This is a huge win for us. It’s a big confidence booster as we get ready for the playoffs.”

Despite a seven-point deficit in the third quarter, PCM (16-4, 15-2) maintained its composure. The Mustangs eventually finished the third period on an 11-0 run and then scored the first bucket of the fourth to go up 52-46.

From there, PCM closed out the win thanks to solid play down the stretch from its seniors.

Lindsay gave the Mustangs a 10-point lead with a three-point play and Reeve and Keuning both hit some key free throws in the final minutes to keep the Tigers at arm’s length.

Gilbert (16-3, 15-2) got 15 points from Wes Greder and Jack Hoiberg put in 13. Austin Graber collected 10 points in the loss, too.

The HOIAC title will be decided Friday night. PCM hosts Greene County and Gilbert travels to CMB.

If both teams win, they share the league title. PCM can win the championship outright with a win over the Rams and a Gilbert loss to the Raiders in Baxter.
