Lynnville-Sully boys win fifth straight

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s boys posted their fifth straight win with a 60-36 victory at home Tuesday over the English Valleys Bears.

“We started off a little slow tonight, but our bench came in and gave us a lift,” said Nick Harthoorn, Hawk boys’ head coach. “We were able to make a nice run in the third quarter to take control of the game.”

Lynnville-Sully had a 28-16 lead at halftime, in part because of a 17-6 run in the second period. The Hawks continued that surge in the third quarter, outscoring the Bears, 20-10.

Kyle Van Dyke paced the Hawks with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He also blocked four shots. Sage Ehresman added eight points while Canyon Kahlmann and Jake Brand each scored six points.

Scoring five points apiece for Lynnville-Sully were Tyler Van Zante, Baker Zegers and John Trettin. Ben Trettin had four points. Jesse Van Wyk and Caleb James had two points each.

Brand and Van Wyk dished out three assists apiece.

The Hawks shot 20-of-55 from the field and hit 14-of-19 free throw attempts. The Bears were 16-of-36 from the field and sank 4-of-11 free throw shots.

Tanner Icenbice led the Bears with 13 points. Adam Kerkove scored 12 points.

Lynnville-Sully improved to 14-5 in South Iowa Cedar League play and 15-5 overall. The Hawks conclude the regular season Friday at North Mahaska.
