Mustangs split two with red-hot Saydel

DES MOINES — The Prairie City-Monroe boys’ basketball team recovered from a sluggish start and kept its Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference title hopes alive Tuesday, rallying back from a halftime deficit to beat Saydel, 57-43, on the road.

Logan Gilman and Trey Lindsay each scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs, who are now 14-4 overall and 13-2 in the HOIAC.

Saydel, which came into the game riding a three-game win streak, couldn’t hold onto a 17-9 first-quarter lead or a 26-22 halftime edge.

PCM grabbed the lead for good with a 21-10 surplus in the third quarter and then finished off the Eagles (8-9, 7-8) with a 14-7 advantage in the fourth.

Gilman also grabbed five boards in the win, while Lindsay tallied four rebounds and two steals. Luke Greiner scored 11 and Ricky Reeve had nine as the Mustangs won their fifth game in six tries.
