History made in Newton

Scott Pline

Newton

A historic thing happened here in Newton a few weeks ago and no one seemed to notice. In a news story about the Newton Schools, Jason Brooks actually quoted a School Board Member stating ”Woodrow Wilson would have to be replaced in the coming years” and the world didn’t end as we know it.

It is good to be having dialogue and make plans to replace Berg Elementary and Middle School. It would be even better for the School Board to present a comprehensive plan to the taxpayers about how, when and how much it’s going to cost to replace the ever aging infrastructure of the entire School District, of which Berg is not the oldest building being used. Without that information an informed decision on any single bond issue can’t be made.

I see the need for replacement, I consider it my obligation to support the schools as they have supported my children, and will do so gladly for my grandchildren. I said the same in my last letter.

However, until I see a comprehensive plan being discussed and timeline for improvements across the district. I will vote NO! And I will encourage others to do the same on any bond issue presented to the taxpayers of the Newton Community School District.
