MAXWELL — Collins-Maxwell/Baxter junior Logan Mitchell went 2-0 with two first-period pins, but the Raider wrestling team dropped two duals in their home finale Thursday night.
Roland-Story recorded three pins, a technical fall and a major decision and was handed four forfeits during its 51-27 Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference win over CMB and then Iowa Falls-Alden tallied five pins and was given three forfeits in a 61-18 non-conference victory.
Mitchell (195) was the biggest bright spot for the Raiders. He pinned Calvin Bright of Roland-Story in 1 minute, 21 seconds and then claimed another win by fall when he stuck Iowa Falls-Alden’s Peyton Williams in 1:17.
Sophomore Archer McFadden (285) also earned a first-period pin against Roland-Story. He finished off Josh Engelby in 51 seconds but lost in overtime to Iowa Falls-Alden’s Zack Duncan.
Frank Sposeto (120) and Charles Robertson (220) both won their matches by forfeit against the Norsemen. Evan Bianchi lost 4-3 to William Clark at the HOIAC tourney Saturday but avenged that defeat with a 12-5 win Thursday.
Roland-Story (16-6, 10-0) jumped out to a 39-3 lead before CMB closed the gap with four wins in the final six matches.
Iowa Falls-Alden, which also beat the Norsemen, 46-36, got in front of CMB 34-6 and cruised from there in the final dual of the night.
The only win during that stretch for the Raiders was Jake Hennick’s pin at 126. Blake Coughenour also got a pin at 182 later in the dual.
Mitchell improved to 21-5 on the year, while McFadden is 22-7 and Hennick is 20-9.
The Raiders’ will wrestle Saturday at the Colfax-Mingo dual tournament. CMB (6-13, 3-7) will wrestle the Dowling Catholic JV, Pleasantville, Southeast Warren and the JV All-Stars in pool play. Action begins at 9 a.m.
