Indianola joining Little Hawkeye Conference

Citing the right time and competition size, Indianola will become a member of the Little Hawkeye Conference beginning the 2016-2017 school year.

“We’re very excited with what Indianola brings to the conference in both activities and academics,” said Bill Peters, Newton High principal, of the decision. “It’s a great school and much like Newton.”

Monday night, the Indianola Board of Education approved changing the schools’ athletic and activities to the Little Hawkeye Conference from the Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML) Metro Division. The Indianola school board approved the motion 7-0.

“This is a great opportunity for our student athletes,” said Bernie Brueck, CAA, director of activities, Indianola Community Schools in a news release.

“The time is right, we’re at a place in our district where we want to compete with schools more in line with, not only our size, but our culture and fan base, and LHC offers that. Plus, there is great potential for community growth in each of the districts we’ll be playing. It’s a win-win,” said Brueck.

Indianola joins Newton, Grinnell, Norwalk, Oskaloosa, Pella, Pella Christian and Dallas Center-Grimes, which became a LHC member this year.
