Roger K. Smith

Roger K. Smith, 79, of Baxter, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Roger’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Roger, the son of Floyd and Clara (Shading) Smith, was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Malcom. He lived most of his life in Jasper County. Roger was united in marriage with Carol Marie Farr on July 26, 1970, in Baxter. He was a self-employed roofer for more than 40 years. Roger enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his tractor, watching looney tunes and listening to country music.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol, of Baxter; daughters, Lacie Smith (Antonio Banderas) of Marshalltown, and Tracie Smith (Josh McFarland) of Marshalltown; his seven grandchildren, Little Tony, Destiny, Yessenia, Ireland, Jacoby, Michael and Katie; sister, Ruth Van Dyke of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Alice Farr and Joanne Smith; brother-in-law, Harry (Patty) Farr; and good friends, Bryan Dickey and Brenda Matters. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Casey; and a brother, Richard Smith.
