Melisa Lynn Gregory, 17, and Steven Joseph Fisher, 20, were found brutally murdered at approximately 7:55 a.m. March 3, 1983, at the former Copper Dollar Ranch, located four miles northwest of Newton.

The still-standing pole barn at the former Copper Dollar Ranch can be seen in this photo from 2008, the 25th anniversary of the murders. Melisa's body was found in a trailer parked next to the pole barn, and Steven's body was found on the ground outside the trailer.
Several of Melisa's family members — including sister Lisa, brother Scott, sister Tanna, brother Travis and two nieces Melisa never had an opportunity to meet — gather around a table with Steven and Melissa's pictures at the 2013 candlelight vigil.
