WAYNE — Cole Nickel and Noah Zylstra reach milestones in their high school wrestling careers Saturday. The Lynnville-Sully seniors recorded their 100th career win as Hawks as they competed in the Wayne Duals.
Zylstra went 4-0 on the day at 182-pounds as Lynnville-Sully finished fourth in the event. Nickell was 3-1 for the Hawks at 113 pounds.
Zylstra pinned Nathan Jimenez of Southeast Warren in 49 seconds. He recorded a pin of Ben Mason of Albia in 1 minute, 16 seconds and pinned Seth Willets of Bedford/Lenox in 31 seconds. Zylstra beat Ty Stockwell of Van Buren.
Nickell pinned Dylan Heideman of Bedford/Lenox in 38 seconds and had forfeit wins against Albia and Van Buren. He lost by 17-0 technical fall to Southeast Warren’s Brady Kiner.
“Noah and Cole have shown great leadership this year. We are increasing the push to get ready for sectionals in a couple of weeks,” said Steve Northcutt, Lynnville-Sully head coach.
Lynnville-Sully went 1-2 in its pool. The Hawks defeated Van Buren 46-36, but lost to Albia 42-36 and to Southeast Warren 59-23. Lynnville-Sully was awarded second in the pool through a tiebreaker.
The Hawks wrestled Bedford/Lenox in the third-place dual. Bedford/Lenox defeated the Hawks 48-24.
“Overall, it was a good day. We had good competition and we wrestled well. We had a couple of kids missing,” Northcutt said. “I felt we let Albia slip away where we should of won the dual. We came back strong the rest of the day.”
Cayden Johnson at 138 pounds and Shannon Dunsbergen at 285 pounds were 3-1 in their weight classes.
Northcutt said Southeast Warren is ranked No. 2 in Class 1 while Bedford/Lenox and Albia are Class 2A teams.
There were incomplete results for Lynnville-Sully because of a problem with the TrackWrestling system, Northcutt said. There was no report of the Van Buren dual.
Lynnville-Sully competes in the North Mahaska quadrangular meet Thursday in New Sharon.
