Doyle E. Brubaker, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Nye Legacy Living Facility in Fremont, Neb.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 at First United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary Marzolf will be officiating. A burial will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church. Visit www.duganchapel.com to leave an online condolence.

Doyle was born in Prairie City on May 26, 1923, to Earl and Mamie (Buckingham) Brubaker. He graduated from Prairie City High School and attended McPherson College in Kansas for two years until serving in the United States Army. Doyle was stationed in Japan during World War II and earned two bronze medals before completing his service. Doyle married Maxine Bowers June 23, 1957. After returning from active duty and marrying Maxine, Doyle was an independent salesman for farming equipment and supplies in central Iowa.

Doyle was active in church and sang in the choir at First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed square dancing and camping at Springbook with his wife Maxine and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Doyle was also passionate about working on, rebuilding, and tinkering Rumley oil pulls with his brothers. Every year for Labor Day he would visit Mt. Pleasant, for the Old Thrashers Reunion. He was a member of the Central Hawkeye Gas Engine Club, Gideon’s International and the Optimist Club.

Doyle is survived by his wife Maxine; daughter Karen and husband Carter Burnside of Fremont, Neb.; grandchildren, Cassie, Sherise and Jake Burnside; sister Opal Goodrich of West Union; brother-in-law Dean Bowers of Des Moines; sister-in-law Vivian Brubaker of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his sister Anna Brubaker; and brothers, Everett, Laverne, Price, Leo, Marvin, Carl and Merlin Brubaker.
