NHS sweeps LHC JV bowling tourney

NORWALK — Newton High’s Cardinal junior varsity girls and boys claimed team titles in the Little Hawkeye Conference junior varsity tournament Saturday at Norwalk.

The Cardinal girls rolled up a 1,941 pin count to beat second-place Norwalk, which had a 1,655 total. No score was available for Pella Christian. Oskaloosa did not field junior varsity teams.

Newton’s boys won with a total of 2,327, beating Norwalk’s 2,088.

Lizzy Coyle had the high series for the girls with a 281 (136-145). Ali Cox threw a 270 series (124-146). Hayley Sinclair finished at 265 (146-119).

Kayla Sopher had a 260 (129-131) and Kaytie Hughes had a 249 (126-123). Kirsten Young bowled a 243 (112-131).

Taylor Hernandez paced the Cardinal boys with a 357 (155-202). Sam Supino rolled a 340 (139-201). Reece Thurmond posted a 328 (153-175) followed by Michael Hodnett with a 285 (127-158) and Austin Johansen with a 271 (136-135).

Joe Malsom finished at 264 (114-150) and Zion Dickey had a 254 (110-144).
