Boys’ basketball postseason assignments released

All five area high school boys’ basketball teams now know their postseason assignments. The Iowa High School Athletic Association released district assignments for Classes 1A and 2A last week and the Class 4A substate assignments came out Monday.

Newton’s Cardinals (5-6) are in the Class 4A Substate 7 with Ankeny, Ankeny Centennial, Des Moines Hoover, Des Moines Lincoln and Southeast Polk. In this week’s Iowa boys’ basketball poll, Des Moines Hoover (11-0) and Ankeny Centennial (11-1) are ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in 4A.

In Class 2A, Collins-Maxwell/Baxter and Prairie City-Monroe — Heart of Iowa Conference rivals — are in different districts, but still linked. CMB (5-7) is in District 12 with Des Moines Christian, East Marshall, North Polk, South Hardin and West Marshall. PCM (9-3) is in District 11 with Pella Christian, Mid-Prairie, Eddyvlle-Blakesburg-Fremont, Davis County and Albia.

Class 2A’s District 11 final is in Oskaloosa and District 12’s final is at Nevada, both on Feb. 24. The winners advance to Class 2A Substate 6 at Bondurant-Faraar on Feb. 28.

Lynnville-Sully (8-4) and Colfax-Mingo (0-10) are in Class 1A districts.

Lynnville-Sully is in District 10 with Keota, Moravia, Moulton-Udell, North Mahaska, Seymour, Sigourney, Twin Cedars and Wayne. The district final has not been assigned a location as of yet, but it is slated for Feb. 26. The winner goes to the 1A Substate 5 at Fairfield on Feb. 28.

Colfax-Mingo dropped down into Class 1A this season and is in District 11 with Ankeny Christian Academy, Colo-NESCO, Grand View Christian, Iowa Christian Academy, Martensdale-St. Marys, Melcher-Dallas, Pleasantville, Southeast Warren and Van Meter. Colo-NESCO (12-0) is ranked No. 5 in this week’s 1A poll.

The Class 1A District 11 final is at Ankeny Centennial on Feb. 26. The winner advances to 1A Substate 6 at Johnston on Feb. 28.

Class 2A and 1A district game action begins Feb. 16. Class 4A substate action begins the week of Feb. 22. Pairings and brackets for the 2A and 1A districts and the 4A substates will be released in the first two weeks of February.

The IHSAA state tournaments are March 7-12 at Des Moines’ Wells Fargo Arena.
