Naomi Ruth Poston, 83, of Newton, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Skiff Medical Center. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 12 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. Memorials in Naomi’s name may be left at the funeral home.

Naomi, the daughter of Charles Louis and Ania Maude (Emerson) Jones, was born Dec. 2, 1931, in Des Moines. She grew up in Prairie City and Colfax, and graduated from Colfax-Mingo High School in 1950. In 1963, she moved to Newton. Naomi worked at the Maytag Company in Newton for more than 35 years, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed playing Bingo, spending time at Ponderosa Lake, traveling and going out to eat.

Those left to honor Naomi’s memory are her three sons, James (Nancy Hopkins) Fields, Jr. of Newton, Loren (Shari) Fields of Bonner Springs, Kan., and Robert (T.J.) Fields of Ankeny; step-children, Teresa Poston of Colorado and Michael Poston of Newton; her daughter-in-law, Julie Jones Fields of Mesa, Ariz.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Angeline Roberts of Newton; two brothers, Archie Jones of Monroe and David (Doris) Jones of Carlisle; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Richard and Dennis Fields; brother, Norman Jones; and two former husbands, James Fields, Sr. and Richard Poston.
