Newton Police Department
• Richard E. Keller, 32, of Newton, is charged with possession of controlled substance while being arrested on a warrant. Officers found a baggie with meth in it while searching him. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Darren S. Lehrkamp, 22, of Newton, is charged with public intoxication after authorities were called to the Manhattan bar at 12:34 a.m. Saturday. Lehrkamp had been told multiple times not to return to the Manhattan and had been offered a ride home. He returned to the bar and said that because he was back he had to be arrested. He put his hands behind his back and waited to be arrested. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Wendy J. Cannon, 35, of Newton, is charged with failure to obey stop or yield sign after authorities were called to the intersection of East 17th Street North and First Avenue East at 5:01 p.m. Dec. 12. Betty Skaggs was traveling south on East 17th Street North when Cannon hit the driver’s side of her vehicle after going through a red light. Cannon said she didn’t see the red light and was taken to Skiff for treatment. Skaggs had approximately $5,000 in damage while Cannon had approximately $3,000 in damage. She was cited and released to appear.
• Lacy L. Lundgren, 29, of Altoona, is charged with failure to obey stop or yield sign after authorities were called to the intersection of North Second Avenue East and East Third Street North at 8:42 p.m. Dec. 12. Rhonda Beeler was traveling through the intersection when Lundgren hit the driver’s side of the vehicle after failing to stop at the stop sign. Lundgren had approximately $2,000 in damage while Beeler had approximately $2,500. She was cited and released to appear.
• Debora M. Johnston, 59, of Newton, is charged with failure to stop at stop sign after authorities were called to the intersection of North Sixth Avenue East and East 12th Street North at 10:16 a.m. Dec. 13. Stephanie Kunch was traveling through the intersection when Johnston entered the intersection, hitting Kunch. Kunch had approximately $2,500 in damage while Johnston had approximately $2,000. She was cited and released to appear.
