Raiders finish 2-1 at Wildcat Duals, place fifth overall

STUART — Not a single team went undefeated at the Wildcat Duals in Stuart Saturday. And the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter wrestling team defeated the tournament champion in its first match of the day.

However, the Raiders lost to West Des Moines Valley’s Junior varsity in Round 2 and the 2-1 record pushed them to fifth place overall on the day.

CMB beat Waukee’s Junior varsity 48-30 to begin the day, lost to the Tigers 48-32 and then took down Dallas Center-Grimes’ Junior varsity 45-30.

Waukee ended up beating Belmond-Klemme in the championship dual. Belmond-Klemme started the day 3-0 but finished 3-1 after the loss. Waukee lost to Valley and finished 2-1.

Valley ended up third at 2-1, Moravia was in fourth at 3-1 and sixth and seventh went to Dallas Center-Grimes’ Junior varsity and host West Central Valley, respectively.

Six Raider wrestlers went 3-0 on the day.

Senior Jake Hennick is now 8-1 on the year after he recorded two more pins and was handed a forfeit at 126. Hennick has seven wins by fall out of his eight total victories.

Sophomore Blake Coughenour had the most efficient day of anyone on the CMB roster. He went 3-0 with three pins that were claimed in the first minute of each match.

Logan Mitchell also went 3-0 and he had two pins and one forfeit. Archer McFadden was 3-0 with a pin and two forfeits, while Jared Warne got his hand raised three times after getting handed two forfeits and winning another match by decision.

The final undefeated wrestler on the day was Evan Bianchi, who went 3-0 with three wins by decision.

The Raiders began their dual with Valley down 18-0 and lost by 16. Thirty of CMB’s 48 points against DC-G were scored by wrestlers in weights 170 and above. CMB had nine match wins against Waukee, six of them came after 160.

Next up for CMB is a triangular at Saydel against the Eagles and Greene County at 6 p.m. Thursday.
