CMB ends losing skid with ease

BAXTER — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys’ basketball team scored the first 18 points against Grand View Christian and cruised to the easy win Saturday.

Four players scored in double-figures and the Raiders hit at least five 3-pointers in a game for the second straight night during a 73-31 win over the previously unbeaten Thunder.

Grand View Christian came into the game 3-0 and defeated its first three opponents by an average of almost 50 points per game, but the short-handed Thunder were no match for CMB’s size and athleticism.

Tommy Galloway and Joey Nissen both had a season-high 16 points for the Raiders, while Bryce Kemp finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. Seth Balke scored 12 points and dished out five assists as well.

It was CMB’s first win of the year. And the Raiders dominated the boards, 36-25.

Patrick Girard and Galloway combined to score the Raiders’ first nine points and then Nissen buried the first of his four 3-pointers of the game to make it 12-0 and eventually led 27-6.

The Raiders led 37-17 at the break, kicked on the continuous clock on Balke’s bucket late in the third quarter and ended a five-game losing streak with ease.

Noah Burt led the Thunder with 12 points and Stephen Glenn added seven rebounds and three assists.
