A scoring snafu was untangled following Saturday’s 2014 Newton High Cardinal Invitational swim meet. Instead of finishing second, the Cardinals won their own swim invitational for the first time in “a long time,” Newton head coach Dave Hook said.
“The meet was supposed have been scored on a 12-place system and it was scored on a 10-place system,” Hook said. “We found the error and adjusted the team scores.”
Newton won with 321.5 points followed by Indianola with 313. Decorah placed third at 295 followed by Grinnell/BGM at 168, Vinton-Shellsburg at 82 and Oskloosa at 71.50.
“The boys were thrilled to know they won the meet,” Hook said. “They worked hard for it and deserve the victory.”
