Edgar Krueger, 86, of Baxter, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, at the Baxter Care Center. A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at Bethany United Church of Christ. There will not be a memorial service. A private family burial will be at Bethany Cemetery at a later date.

Edward Frederick Krueger was born on April 3, 1928, to Viola (Kanne) and Bernhard Krueger. The family farmed in the area for many years. He grew up on what is now one of the Century Farms in the family. He attended Baxter School and Central College in Pella. He returned home to farm and married Rosemary Guessford on July 25, 1948. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter and helped maintain Bethany’s Krueger Memorial Park. His father flew a small plane and Ed grew up around planes and pilots. He attended many fly-in breakfasts while belonging to the Flying Farmers. He belonged to the Antique Airplane Association. In the winter he bowled on leagues in Newton. In the summer he enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada with the guys and family canoeing and backpacking trips were frequent. Scuba diving in the Caribbean and trips on chartered sail boats were a favorite. He was proficient at underwater photography. Later, local fishing and sailing occupied his time.

Ed is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Curt) Hansen and Macy Lisk; grandchildren Brock (Robin) Hansen, Holly (Jeff) Sandhoff, Rachel (David) Douglas, Kathryn (Tariq) Kahn, Lisa (Travis) Thornton and Justin Lisk; great-grandchildren Veronica Condon, Morgan Hansen, Ayden Hansen, Seth Hansen, Tate and Carmen Sandhoff, Tristan Thornton, Loren Doulas, Kiosi and Alrik Kahn; brother Bill Krueger; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Randy Krueger; son-in-law Randy Lisk; sister Ruth Miller; brother Dean Krueger; and grandchild Carolyn Krueger.
