Dorothy Mae Riley

Dorothy Mae Riley, 91, of Colfax, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, Good Samaritan Society in Indianola. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at the Howard Street Christian Church with burial following at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at the church. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Howard Street Church and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of Harry and Hazel (Lavelleur) Thomas, Dorothy was born on Feb. 15, 1923, in Mitchellville. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1943. On Feb. 18, 1944, she was united in marriage to Clarence A. Riley in Newton. Dorothy was a member of the Howard Street Christian Church.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Tim (Diane) Riley of Phoenix, Ariz., Bob (Susan) Riley of Colfax, and Jerry (Gemmaline) Riley of Indianola; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, James (Gladys) Thomas of Atlantic, and Richard (Wilma) Thomas of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; husband Clarence in 1987; and sisters, Helen Russell, Lucille Yoakum, Faye Smith. Maxine Carroll and June Nikolish; and two brothers, Harry and John.
