Mustang boys drop second straight, fall to Eagles

PELLA — Down four at halftime, the Prairie City-Monroe boys’ basketball team was in pretty good shape on the road against undefeated Pella Christian on Monday night.

That was until the Eagles caught fire on their home floor and ran away with a 73-58 victory over the Mustangs in non-conference action.

“We thought we were in pretty good shape at halftime, but we just let things get away from us in the second half,” said PCM coach Fred Lorensen. “It was a combination of them making most of their shots and us not making many of ours.”

The Mustangs trailed 28-24 at the break but were outscored 25-14 in the third quarter.

Pella Christian is now 4-0 on the season. The Eagles entered the game with double-digit wins over West Marshall and ADM of Adel and won at Newton by seven points.

Sophomore Logan Gilman led the Mustangs with 18 points, while Trey Lindsay finished with 14 points.

Much of the damage on the scoreboard for Pella Christian came from Levi Jungling and Josh Posthuma.

Jungling hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out six assists. Posthuma added 23 points, three 3-pointers and seven rebounds.

David Kacmarynski also had nine points and nine boards for the Eagles.

PCM dropped to 1-2 overall for the season but can end a two-game losing streak Tuesday night at Colfax-Mingo (0-2). The Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference matchup is scheduled to tip of at 7:30 p.m.
