MONTEZUMA — Cole Nickell and Noah Zylstra were the two Lynnville-Sully wrestlers to reach championship matches at Saturday’s TCM Wrestling Invitational hosted by Tri-County/Montezuma.
Noah Zylstra recorded two wins by pins in the 182-pound quarterfinals and semifinals. In the 182-pound championship match, Noah Zylstra lost 9-1 to BGM’s Colton Massengale. Noah Zylstra pinned Zach Wgmann of Solon in quarterfinal and Ashton Messer of Pella in 44 seconds in the semifinal match.
Nickell had a bye in the quarterfinals of the 113-pound division and reached the title match with a pin of Jaden Owen of Solon. Nickell faced Class 2A’s ninth-ranked Nick Meling of East Marshall for the championship. Meling pinned Nickell in the middle of the third period.
Lynnville-Sully finished sixth at the tournament with 95 points. Solon won the TCM Invitational title with 223 points.
Freshman Sage Zylstra bounced back from being pinned by Mason Garber of Tri-County/Montezuma in the quarterfinals of the 126-pound division. He pinned Tathan Clark of Pleasantville and claimed a injure default victory in the consolation bracket.
Those two wins put Sage Zylstra in the third-place match against Garber. Sage Zylstra came up with a 4-2 win over Garber for third.
Shannon Dunsbergen went 2-2 to finish fourth in the 285-pound division. Lynnville-Sully had two wrestlers place fifth in their divisions — Josh Dunsbergen at 120 and Cayden Johnson at 145. Carson Dunsbergen at 132 and Jack Hardin at 170 were sixth in their weight classes.
Lynnville-Sully has its first home matches of the season Thursday, hosting Belle Plain, Sigourney and HLV.
