Newton Police Department

• Danny V. Hobbs, 37, of Newton, was arrested on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear and also charged with driving while license suspended after authorities pulled him over at Kum & Go at 5:44 p.m. Dec. 1. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Christopher L. Cleveland, 32, of Newton, was arrested on a warrant for trespassing and is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Hy-Vee at 4:37 p.m. Tuesday. Officers spoke with an employee who said she saw Cleveland place two packages of hamburger and a package of bacon in his coat pockets. When confronted he tried to throw out the items in the aisle. The items totaled $18.76. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Danny L. Atwood, 34, of Des Moines, is charged with failure to maintain control after authorities were called to the intersection of South Second Avenue East and East Fourth Street South at 2:45 p.m. Dec. 1. Katelund Jeffrey was traveling on East Fourth Street South when Atwood rear-ended her vehicle as she was slowing down to turn. Jeffrey had approximately $1,400 in damage while Atwood had none. He was cited and released to appear.

• Cassie A. Hudnutt, 20, of Newton, is charged with failure to maintain control after authorities were called to the 200 block of East Second Street South at 5:58 p.m. Tuesday. Laurel Hunter’s vehicle was parked legally and Hudnutt lost control of her vehicle and hit the rear of Hunter’s vehicle. Hudnutt was injured and transported to Skiff Medical Center for treatment. Hunter had approximately $1,500 in damage while Hudnutt had approximately $1,000. She was cited and released to appear.

• Robert J. Quinn, 42, of Des Moines, is charged with fifth-degree theft after authorities were called to Walmart at 4:46 p.m. Nov. 25. Employees told officers that Quinn had taken the tag off of a hat and placed it down his pants. After being approached by staff, Quinn took the hat out and placed it in the store. He then fled and was stopped in the Arby’s parking lot. The item totaled $6.86. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
