It was boys’ night out Thursday for Newton High.
Newton’s wrestling team went right to the wire to win its season-opening dual on the road against Knoxville. Newton’s swim team made a strong showing at home for the first time in the young 2014-15 season, winning two of three duals.
The Newton boys’ junior varsity won on a last-second shot at Pella Christian. The freshman boys’ basketball team also defeated Pella Christian.
And away we go.
Newton is going to be hopping this weekend with high school sports.
Friday night Newton High’s girls and boys host Pella Christian’s Eagle basketball squads to begin Little Hawkeye Conference play.
On Saturday, the NHS swim team and the NHS wrestling team hold invitational competitions at the Newton YMCA and the high school. Both events begin at 10 a.m.
Also Saturday, the Newton High bowling teams get rolling in a dual at Knoxville.
