Local handbell ensemble announce December performances

“Tintinnabulation,” a local handbell ensemble, invites the public to come and enjoy some of its holiday concerts.

Hear the group from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday in the meeting room at the Newton Public Library.

In addition they will perform during a three-hour fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 16 at Culver’s Restaurant. A third public performance will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at Uncle Nancy’s Coffee Shop.

“Tintinnabulation” is a self-funded bell ensemble comprised of educators from Jasper County. The group plays the set of handbells that were used for recreation with the clients at the Jasper County Care Facility until its closing in 2000.

The bells were then given to the Jasper County Museum.

“Tintinnabulation,” a word that means “the sound and ringing of bells,” was chosen for the group’s name when it formed in the fall of 2011 at the invitation of the Museum.
