Hawks edge rival Eagles in overtime

SULLY — A balanced scoring attack fueled Lynnville-Sully’s overtime win at home Tuesday against South Iowa Cedar League foe Keota. The Hawk girls led most of the game, but the Eagles outscored the home team, 13-10 in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Lynnville-Sully dropped in eight points during the overtime period while holding Keota to six to claim a 50-48 victory. The Hawks improved to 2-0 for the season and in league play.

“It was a very hard fought game. Both teams played  hard. We had some good balance scoring again,” said Jerry Hulsing, Hawk head coach.

“We had some kids step up and play well for us. We made enough plays down the stretch to pull the win out. Girls kept battling even after we lost the lead and found a way to get the lead again.”

Brenna Lanser led a trio Hawks scoring in double figures with 13 points. Kasiah Ehresman added 11 points and Shelby Davis tossed in 10. Marissa Vos scored nine points followed by Lysandra James with five and Elizabeth Van Manen with two points.

The Hawks got to the free-throw line 30 times, hitting 16, which factored into the win. The Eagles went 6-of-13 from the line. Keota downed six 3-pointers in the contest.

Madison Sheetz paced the Eagles with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Madison Sieren added 17 points and had four steals.

Lanser claimed seven rebounds for Lynnville-Sully, plus had four steals.

Lynnville-Sully travels to Tri-County Tuesday.
