Robert W. Little

Robert W. Little, 88, formerly of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at Kloster Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the BGM Scholarship Fund.

He is survived by his children, Becky Hammer (Richard) of Newton, Brenda Jermier (Dave) of Dallas Center, and Keith Little of Albia; eight grandchildren, Troy Hammer, Travis Hammer and Erin Yeager, all of Newton, Chris Jermier (Cali) of Grimes, Matt Jermier (Katie) of Waukee and Julie Watson (Chris) of Littleton, Colo., D.J. Davis of Pontotoc, Miss., and Lance Little (CeeCee) of Pontotoc, Miss.; 14 great-grandchildren, Elijah, Hannah, Noah, Josi, Greg, Jacob, Bryce, Ellie, Macey, Tyson, Kale, Maden, Jalen and Quentin; and two step-great-grandchildren; a sister Ada Buckmaster of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Little of Montezuma, Norma Allen of Newton and Anna Grace Dayton of Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Miriam; a grandson Trevor Hammer; three brothers, Floyd, Gerald and DeWayne Little; and extended family members, including Larry Dayton, Earl Allen and John Buckmaster.

Robert William Little was born May 16, 1926, in rural Delta, the son of John Russell and Helen Marie Bates Little. He graduated from Tri County High School in Thornburg, and married Miriam L. Dayton on Feb. 14, 1950, at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. Robert farmed in the Malcom and Deep River areas until 1961. He then was employed as custodian at the Monroe and BGM schools. Later he worked with his son Keith in the painting business. In his later years, Robert worked at the Brooklyn Flag Store.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Ruritans and Kiwanis, and card clubs. He enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Robert was very devoted to his family and community.
