Neal Smith NWR announcs winter hours

Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will begin its winter hours, effective Dec. 1 through March 1, 2015.

The Refuge Visitor Center will be closed on Sundays as a cost-savings measure due to low visitation during winter months. Beginning Dec. 1, seasonal hours will be Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Trails and Auto Tour Route will remain open every day from dawn to dusk.

The Visitor Center at Neal Smith NWR will be closed for all federal holidays. Additionally, the Visitor Center will close at noon on Nov. 26, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31. For information or questions, please contact Cheryl Groom at 515-994-3400 or Cheryl_Groom@fws.gov.

Located in the central part of the state, Neal Smith NWR was established in 1991 as a tallgrass prairie restoration and reconstruction project. Today it consists of more than 5,400 acres in various stages of restoration.
