ISU women begin with easy victory

AMES — Bryanna Fernstrom scored 25 points and Seanna Johnson and Brynn Williamson both opened the new season with double-doubles as the Iowa State women’s basketball team kicked off the 2014-15 year with a 98-76 win over South Carolina Upstate at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday.

Fernstrom scored the most points ever in an ISU freshman debut.

Johnson’s fifth career double-double included 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Williamson notched her first-ever collegiate double-double with 13 points and a career-high 12 boards.

Emily Durr and Nicole Blaskowsky each scored 10 in helping Iowa State (1-0) win its 20th straight season-opener under coach Bill Fennelly.
