Karen Lee Moore, the daughter of Charles William and Genevie Marie (Varner) Larrison, was born May 16, 1938, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School with the class of 1956. On June 30, 1956, Karen was united in marriage with John Robert Moore in Newton. Karen had worked many years for Newton Manufacturing and Drugtown in Newton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, the Lady Elks, Women of the Moose and the Izaak Walton League. Karen was an avid bowler and reader. She also enjoyed knitting afghans for nursing homes and disabled veterans.

Karen died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at her home in Newton. She was 76 years old. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.

Those left to honor Karen’s memory include her sons, John Charles Moore of Urbandale, and Jeffrey Paul Moore of North Liberty; her grandchildren, Vanessa Moore, Matthew Moore, Nicholas Moore; and her brothers, David Larrison, Fred Larrison and Terry Larrison.

A memorial service for Karen and her husband, John, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday. They will be laid to rest together at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Memorials may be designated to the Disabled America Veterans and may be left at the funeral home.
