Incumbents Carpenter, Brock retain supervisor seats

Incumbents ruled the race with Democrat Joe Brock and Republican Denny Carpenter winning re-election in the Jasper County Board of Supervisors race Tuesday. Brock and Carpenter beat out Republican Jeremy Heaberlin and claimed the two open positions.

“I’m happy to be on the winning side and I certainly look forward to another four years. We have a lot of things planned and there is plenty to do,” Brock said.

Carpenter won the vote with 8,119 ballots cast in his favor followed by Brock receiving 7,656. Heaberlin, who kept the race close through out the night, ended with 6,257 votes. There were also 74 write in votes.

“I think it has been a wonderful race. I think our race in the county was the cleanest and it was all about what we wanted to do. All I can say is congratulations to Denny and to Joe and I hope that they pick up on a little bit of what I was talking about where reaching out to not just the job at hand, but doing more than what’s in front of them,” Heaberlin said.

Carpenter will be in his third term and second consecutive term. He previously was on the board from 2003 to 2006. Brock will be in his second term on the board. Both will join current supervisor Democrat Dennis Stevenson.

Incumbent Democrat Jasper County Attorney Mike Jacobsen will continue for another term after running unopposed.

“I just want to thank the voters for supporting me again in this election and I look forward to another four years,” Jacobsen said.

Democrat Doug Bishop was also successful in his unopposed race for Jasper County Treasurer.
