Former Newton High head football coach John Jenkins got a visit from the Newton Cardinal Big Red at Park Centre/Willowbrook. It is thumbs up for the Cardinal football team headed to Wednesday’s opening-round game of the Class 3A playoffs. Newton plays Clear Creek-Amana at 7 p.m. in Tiffin. Jenkins was NHS head coach for 17 years, taking the Cardinals to the playoffs 15 years in a row from 1988 to 2002.
