Bears shut out Tigerhawks

BROOKLYN — Colfax-Mingo’s Tigerhawks were no match for their hosts Friday night. The BGM Bears rolled past the Tigerhawks, 37-0 in Class A District 7 action.

It was the first time this season the Tigerhawks failed to score in a game. They are 3-3 in district play and 5-3 overall.

Colfax-Mingo need to win at home against GMG (0-8) to clinch the No. 4 seed from the district in the playoffs. Lynnville-Sully is 3-3 in district play, but the Tigerhawks hold the head-to-head tiebreaker because they beat the Hawks earlier this season.

Junior quarterback Jared Myers carried the football 16 times for 58 yards and passed for 103 yards. Myers was 7-of-23 passing but the Bears intercepted three Myers’ passes on the night. The Tigerhawks fumbled the ball away three times.

Colfax-Mingo’s defense could not stop Bears running back Colton Massengale, who rushed for 259 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns. Tanner Jensen only completed 3-of-13 passes for the Bears but they were touchdown passes to Jayce Knight.

For the Tigerhawks, Blake Summy caught four passes for 30 yards. Jimmy Abell had one reception for 26 yards and Lane Dunblazer had one catch for 40 yards.

Defensively, Alan Wheeler racked up 13 solo tackles and seven assisted tackles for the Tigerhawks. Myers had eight solo stops and seven assisted tackles. Brady DeJoode made six unassisted tackles and one assisted tackle. Jimmy Camp came up with five solo stops and three assisted tackles.

Abell and Summy each had a pass interception. Clayton Brown recovered a fumble for Colfax-Mingo. Summy punted five times for 186 yards.
