Pella beats Newton JV

PELLA — Newton High’s junior varsity and Pella’s junior varsity football team braved the weather Monday night, but only for a half of a game. Mother Nature won out.

Pella won also, posting a 28-7 win over Newton in the rain-shortened contest.

Down 7-0, Newton tied the game up quickly. On their first play of their second possession, the Cardinals scored on a 77-yard touchdown run by Dalton Nevels. Josh Gulling kicked the extra point to make it 7-7 with 7:59 left in the first quarter.

Pella scored on a blocked punt, then added two more touchdowns off Newton turnovers.

Officials and coaches consulted at halftime and decided to call the game at half because of the heavy rain and high wind
