Payton is a good man, great candidate

Collin Reynolds

Newton

I’ve seen quite a few letters to the editor in support of our current state representative. Most of them have had one thing in common—they’ve come from outside the district. To me, that speaks volumes. I’m writing from within the district to encourage folks to vote for a good man and a great candidate, Patrick Payton.

I’ve known Patrick’s family for several years, mostly through the Newton school system, and they are great people. They are warm and welcoming, and they always seem to be wearing a smile. This is a testimony to the kind of man Patrick is.

Throughout this last spring and summer, and now fall, I’ve provided Patrick’s lawn care services. Because of that, I’ve gotten to know him a little bit better than I did before, and I can say without reservation that he would make a great state representative for Jasper County. He brings a lot to the table by way of his background and experience in business and education, not to mention the fact that he is very much a people-person. Many candidates dread the door-knocking part of a campaign, and some skip it altogether. Patrick thrives on it because he loves people, enjoys talking with them, and is genuinely concerned for them.

I believe it’s largely these traits that have compelled him to run for office. He wants to serve the people of Jasper County as our state representative. He wants to help provide good jobs for us, and for all Iowans. He wants to help communities like Newton bounce back and thrive, after going through what we went through with the loss of Maytag. He wants to hand a better Iowa — a better Jasper County — to the next generation.

As a member of that next generation, and as a small business owner and entrepreneur, I have full confidence that Patrick Payton is the right man for the job. Whether you’re voting early or waiting until Election Day on Nov. 4, please join me in voting for Patrick Payton to be our next state representative.
