Alzheimer’s Association helps educate those in early stages of demetia

DES MOINES — The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Iowa Chapter will host a statewide early-stage dementia educational conference dedicated to those living in the early-stages of dementia and their caregivers.

The Alzheimer’s Association follows a seven stage dementia framework to provide a general idea of how abilities and symptoms change during the course of the disease, but realize that often times there is cross over and symptoms vary from each individual. Early-stage is typically those individuals in stages 1-3 when they are still independent or needing little assistance, as well as with the majority of symptoms being short-term memory.

The Alzheimer's Association Early-Stage Dementia Conference will be from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Honey Creek Resort in Moravia.
Attendees are encouraged to come and unwind the night before with their care partner and then enjoy the day learning in a relaxed setting.

The cost to attend is free to those in the early-stages of dementia and one care partner, but you must call Susan Callison at the Alzheimer’s Association to register.

Call her direct at (515) 440-6383 ext. 106 or toll-free at (800) 272-3900.
